BASIC SKILLS IMPROVEMENT
Students who are in need of remediation in Language Arts Literacy and/or Mathematics are selected to participate in the BSI Program. They may be assisted by our BSI teachers, both in the classroom or out of the room. A diagnostic-prescriptive model is used to remediate the specific skills found to be in need of improvement. In all situations, prior parental input and permission will be sought. Criteria for selection into the program includes teacher recommendation, standardized test scores, end of year test results, and report card grades. Two meetings are held annually during Parent-Teacher conferences and parents are informed about the program. Parent feedback is solicited at this time and suggestions for improving the program are taken into consideration.
ENRICHMENT
The Enrichment Program for gifted/talented students seeks cognitive and affective growth: thinking skills, productivity, initiative, self and human understanding, and increased creativity. Selection for Enrichment is based on qualification via a range of matrixed data. A balance of objective and subjective data is collected and updated yearly, since student growth is often sporadic through elementary school years. Criteria vary according to the type of giftedness represented: creativity, specific academic aptitude, leadership, as well as general intellectual ability and the visual arts. If you wish to nominate your child for the program, parent nomination forms are available from the main office.
