Dear Parents/Guardians:

The mission of the Marian Emmons McKeown Elementary School, Hampton Township’s progressive, family oriented, learning community in the “Heartland of Sussex County” is to provide each child with varied educational experiences, while emphasizing individual student growth, through community support in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment in order to develop life long learners who are productive citizens.  Footnote: The Hampton Township Board of Education does hereby acknowledge that within the Mission Statement there exists the expectation as per the New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum that “all pupils achieve the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards at all grade levels” per the required mandate under indictor A.1.

The Marian E. McKeown Elementary School-Parent-Student compact is a plan that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help students achieve state standards.

The Hampton Township School District will:

v    Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective      learning environment that enables students to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards.

v    To the extent practicable, provide full opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities and parents of migratory children.

v    Provide information and school reports in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language parents understand.

v    Jointly develop and agree on a parent involvement policy with the parents of participating students.  This compact will be distributed to parents of participating students.

v    Provide coordination, technical assistance, and other support necessary to assist participating school in planning and implementing parental involvement activities to improve student academic and school performance.

Parents/Guardians of Participating Students will:

v    Examine backpacks daily to insure that no dangerous weapons (real or fake) are brought into school. Items such as guns, knives, bullets or anything that could result in injury to students or to staff are strictly prohibited by both state law and school policy.

v    Assure their child’s prompt and regular school attendance and compliance with school rules and procedures.

v    Talk with their child daily about school activities and show an active interest in their assignments.

v    Provide a regular time and place for homework assignments.

v    Communicate any needs and concerns to appropriate school representatives.

v    Respond to school communications promptly, attend parent conferences and programs, and encourage their child’s social and intellectual development.

Participating Students will:

v        Put forth their best effort at all times when in school.

v        Follow school rules and procedures.

v        Complete and return homework and other assignments in a timely manner.

Thank you for your continued support of our elementary school.

Sincerely,

Dominic Festante, Principal
