PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
It is the practice of
this school district to provide continuous communication between the school and
the home which will give both teachers and parents
information about each child. This
information should be helpful to overcome academic and social deficiencies and
have each child experience success. We
believe that we should indicate a child's progress in a way that does not
develop either a sense of failure or a sense that the limit of one's potential
has been attained.
This practice means
parents must exercise their right to know all that the school knows about their
child's accomplishments and progress. We
further believe that the way in which this district provides for communication
among parents, students, teachers, and administrators is indicative of our
concern for your child.
Parents are asked to send
a note to the teacher in advance of any item which concerns them. Items which parents should want to know about
and which will be covered during the conferences are the achievement levels and
the general academic ability of their child.
Other topics of discussion can be:
behavior in the class, the rate of progress, and homework assignments.
Your conference is with
one of your child's teachers, although your child may work with other
teachers. The progress report may
contain comments written by each of the teachers of communication skills
(reading, language, spelling), computation skills,
science, social studies, and/or special subjects. If you wish to speak to any teachers with
whom your child works, please notify your child's homeroom teacher in advance
of conference dates and an appointment will be arranged.

DISCIPLINE
Discipline is necessary to
ensure the safety of all children and to be able to offer all students equal
educational opportunities. Discipline
must be a cooperative effort between the school and the home. A Code of Conduct is given to each parent at
the beginning of the school year.
Several new state and federal regulations also impose strict enforcement
of "zero tolerance" policies which deal with dangerous and hazardous
substances, drugs, tobacco, firearms, weapons, toys, clothing and advertisements
that promote them, and unsuitable use of other items, chemicals, health aids,
medicines, etc. These laws are very
strict and they must be adhered to with little room for understanding. Bias incidents, harassment, bullying, teasing
and the like will not be tolerated without strong discipline. Threats, written
or verbal, are viewed as serious and will be handled accordingly. We are
required by law to report to police incidents involving planned or threatened
violence by students. Please read the Code of Conduct carefully and direct any
questions you may have to teachers and/or administration. Each year, parents
are required to respond in writing to school officials that they and their
child are aware of the contents of the Code of Conduct.
SCHOOL PROPERTY
Students are expected to
respect and care for school property. A
little care will go a long way! Parents
may be held responsible for the deliberate destruction of school property by
their child. Lost textbooks will have to
be paid for by parents. Students with
outstanding bills will have final report cards withheld until payment is made.
CONCERNS
Problems and concerns will
develop periodically. When they do, the proper procedure is to
first discuss the problem with the person or teacher directly involved. If the matter
is not resolved, the Principal and then the Chief School Administrator would be
seen next. After following this
procedure, you may discuss your concerns with the Board of Education. Your
cooperation with this procedure is appreciated.
GIFTS TO TEACHERS
We discourage the practice
of giving personal gifts to teachers at any time.
